Since
the mid-1970s, Bob Hume has enjoyed playing guitar and
singing in bands. He soon discovered that he also enjoyed
working behind the microphone, and mixing and recording
became a serious hobby. Years later, as his two daughters
began performing in middle school concerts, he started
to record these as well. Word of his capabilities spread,
and he now records vocal and instrumental performances
for the Baltimore
County Public School system. He has recorded All-Honor’s
Concerts and Middle and High School Adjudications and
various Spring and Fall Concerts for individual Middle
Schools.
Concerts are recorded live to a stereo
master, either a DAT or real-time CD recorder using
a single pair of condenser microphones. Post-recording
editing includes mastering for level and balance and
trimming for start and end times of individual tracks.
An edited master is produced and CDs are created with
a CD-R duplicator.
He creates the artwork for the CD cover,
either repeating any motifs present in the concert handbill
or creating something original. CD’s are labeled,
an insert duplicating the handbill information is included,
and each CD is delivered in a jewel case. In the event
older recordings are desired, Bob keeps a library so
that a musical event from years past can be obtained.
In the past, Bob has worked with the
schools to provide copies of the CD’s for fundraising.
He typically receives a percentage of each CD sold. |
